Water News August 2013

Some twenty years ago, Palmdale Water District started working with the US Forest Service to manage sediment in Littlerock Reservoir. Sediment (rocks, gravel, and soil) has been washing down from the San Gabriel Mountains, above the dam, since the Dam was completed in 1924.

We are all invited by Governor Edmund G. Brown to make July “Water Smart Month.” As the Governor announced, “I invite all Californians to practice more sustainable water consumption, whether it be watering the lawn less frequently, constructing a drip irrigation system for the garden or upgrading existing systems with smart irrigation controllers.”

The District’s “Before the First Drop” campaign is divided into three phases; the first survey, the education phase, and the last survey. The first survey ended April 30th. To be entered into the drawing for a new landscape renovation, many PWD customers have filled out the first survey. In July, there will be another survey.

In July, there will be another survey. All customers that turned in their first survey need to be sure and fill out the second survey to be entered into the drawing.

Our Water is still going to the FISH, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) decreased this year’s water delivery estimate from 40% to 35% of requested State Water Project water for Palmdale Water District and other state Water Contractors.
