Since 2011, the Palmdale Water District’s Cash for Grass program has provided monetary incentives to qualifying homeowners to remove their lawns in exchange for landscaping with drought tolerant vegetation.
In order to take advantage of the best Southern California Edison rates available for PWD’s booster stations and well sites the District meets regularly with its SCE representative. These meetings provide the District with the ability to keep up to date with current rates, or when necessary, change to new lower rates to keep costs down.
Starting January 7, 2013, the Palmdale Water District’s new “Cash for Grass” program will be in effect. The new program has been modified and PWD customers will have to participate in a train- ing program for landscape design to stay qualified for the program. Although customers will be asked to turn in a landscape design for approval, the rebate amount will be more profitable. The rebate amount is based on a sliding scale from $.50 to $2.00 per square foot depending on the condition of the customer’s existing grass.

Palmdale, CA – On April 1, 2015, Governor Brown mandated a statewide water consumption reduction of 25% by March, 2016. Water agencies were tasked to figure out mechanisms to achieve the new requirement. The State Water Resources Control Board further defined how much water each of the hundreds of water agencies
must reduce. Palmdale’s reduction is 32%.
